About upper secondary school

In Norway, students have the right to upper secondary education upon completion of primary and lower secondary education. If you have lived in Norway for a short time, signing up for an introductory program is a good choice. Almost all counties have such programs. In the introductory program you take classes in various subjects, including Norwegian language, as a way to prepare you for upper secondary education.

When you apply for upper secondary school, you have to choose a program of study. There are 13 different programs: 5 within general studies and 8 within vocational studies. You can read more about the different programs here:
